Patient Rights

Medical practice encompasses simple and private Doctor / Patient relationship. Each patient in need of medical care should know his or her fundamental rights:

  • State has a basic duty to protect its citizens from any harm to their health
  • Patient has the fundamental right to choose the type of care, government or private
  • Has the right to choose specialist service as they want
  • Right to be respected and treated with dignity
  • The right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health and associated right to health care
  • The right to consent and to refuse medical intervention and therefore right to be briefed about the reasons for particular investigation and or treatment including availability of any alternative modality
  • The right not to be subjected to medical or scientific experimentation without consent
  • The right to equality under law
  • The right to protection against arbitrary interference with privacy or with the family
  • The right to enjoy the benefits of scientific progress and application
  • The protection of the rights of vulnerable persons
